Rules #1.

     Make sure you have added META tags to your page. A META tag is an HTML tag which is inserted into your code which serves to tell the spider what your website is all about. You should always consider adding every topic you can think of that your web site deals with. Make sure you do not list key words more then once. If in fact you do, the search engine spider will stop reviewing your site and you WILL NOT have a high ranked web site.

Rule #2.

     Make sure that your title is longer then 2 words. Often people do not realize that the page title is often just as important in your web sites ranking as the META tags. If for example the title of your homepage is index, then your ranking will be low. If on the other hand you have a web page dedicated to real estate and your page title is Joe's Bait Shop: Tackle, Supplies, Rods Reels, from hooks to sinkers... then in fact your site will be ranked considerably higher.

Rule #3.

     If you have the chance to determine your web sites URL, then choose something which is going to indicate the type of business you are in. For example, if you own a bait shop and want to rank high, then choose something like: www.joesbaitandtackle.com You will rank higher then a shorter URL then www.jbt.com Those people who don't know what jbt stands for will more then likely not spend the time to find out. Thus if you have the chance pick a good URL. If you aren't so lucky and have a free website from a place like Geocities  then this rule may not apply.

Rule #4.

     Check your content before you submit. If you have dead links or images which no longer exist on your account please fix them. How many times have you been surfing along to find a pages links are dead? Try not to be one of those people. Also if your page contains any foul or obscene language remove it before you submit. Often spiders will not even list your site. With the ever increasing number of child censorship programs such as NET NANNY, your page will not be allowed to come up. Thus remove the obscenities before your page is submitted.

     Finally make sure your website is complete before submitting.
